The Careers in Cosmetology Program prepares individuals to care for and beautify hair, skin, and nails. Students are instructed in the art and science of Cosmetology and business aspects of the industry. Students participate in job shadowing with various employers with the sole purpose of building relationships and recreating what happens "behind the scenes" in a salon. Careers in Cosmetology students also participate in work-based learning which allows them to partner with a salon to gain hours while doing hands on skills in the salon. Students are required to sit for the practical and theory (written) Maryland State Board of Cosmetologists’ Examination upon successful completion of the program. During year one, there are three theory days and two practical days; during year two, there are three practical days, with two theory days.
